Near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy
High costs, long turnaround times, and the need for specialized equipment are common constraints in the analysis of forage samples. Our work on NIR spectroscopy has enabled a 70% cost-savings for nutritive value analysis of forage samples compared to traditional laboratory analyses, enhancing our overall research-extension capacity. We also expanded this work to other crops and soils. We focused on developing experiment-wise NIR models to support research and researchers using a variety of benchtop- and handheld portable-type spectrometers.
